Fishing the world famous Kenai River is an experience you will never forget.
There are several species of fish that can be caught in our area. When hooked, they dance on the water, performing right in front of you. That is the style of the Sockeye (or red) salmon. When fishing off our boardwalk, the moment you drop a line in, it's mere minutes before you are hooked into your first salmon! The fishing fever begins. The reds are abundant and will definitely make your day! With 95% of our river frontage accessible by foot, the area is said, by guests and locals alike, to be one of the best. . . especially when the reds make their way upriver! An early group, in June, destined for the Russian River, consists of mainly the smaller of the two runs, and the late run in mid-July is where you find the trophy-size salmon. This is why our location is so great! A few steps outside our door, and you can access this abundant sockeye run for the time of your life!
The Coho (or silver) salmon runs are soon after the reds have gone through. Try your hand at soaking eggs, and enjoying the long days at the riverbank. They hit your lure and the reeling begins as they take the line. Soon you see the glimmering and shimmering as the silvers come closer to the bank. It'll take your breath away!
We can't forget the record and trophy size Rainbow Trout. Just when you think fishing couldn't be more exciting, you're drifting downriver and hook into a monster Rainbow! Or, reeling in a beautiful Dolly Varden (Dolly's). Good eating and good all-around fun and fishing!
